What makes me qualified to help you?
The simple answer is, if I can do it, so can you. I didn't start out rich, I didn't inherit money and I sure as heck didn't win the lottery. I come from a lower middle class background and through both hard work, and a desire to understand money, I have been able to create the life that I want and deserve.
I have been fascinated with money since I could count. There was something so liberating about having money in my piggy bank that I could use for anything I wanted. At age 10, I started my first business. I grew up in rural Hawaii near the active lava flows, so I convinced my dad to let me open a lemonade stand on the side of the road. I set up shop right where tour buses pulled over to let tourists look at the lava. Needless to say, it was hot and dry and I was selling the only refreshments for miles. I made a killing! So much so, in fact, that a city official came by and required that I get a business license. I made my dad take me to get one, framed it, and displayed it proudly! (Thanks to that state official, business actually increased- who makes a 10 year old get a license?!)

At 11, I discovered this thing called The Stock Market. I couldn't get enough. I spent all my spare time reading about what stocks were, how they were traded, and how people made and lost money. Most girls my age were fawning over Scott Baio, not me, I was enamored with Warren Buffett.
My thirst for financial knowledge stuck with me through both high school and college. However, somewhere along the way I decided that a job in finance was just too boring, but I still couldn't shake my connection with money. I chose to pursue technical theatre (costume design) at Northwestern University but just in case I decided to minor in economics as well.
So, where did I go from there?
Well, off to Hollywood of course! I wanted to make movie magic! And that is just what I did for 15 years. I worked long hours (often 18 hours a day, 6 days a week) and slowly worked my way to the top of my field. Along the way I discovered that there was the PERFECT job for someone like me. A job that combined the creativity that I was after with the financial knowledge I had been stockpiling. I was a Costume Supervisor! This job gave me both creative input styling actors and extras, but I was also the money maven of the department, often times managing upwards of a million dollars for the studios. (Curious to know what films I've worked on? Click here! I would want to know too!)
Did all this hard work pay off?
Absolutely! Because I understand the nuances of money I was able to make many smart choices along the way. Early on I made the very important decision to get out of debt and start saving. I was so committed to this goal that by the time I was 25 the debt was gone and my savings had grown large enough to provide me with the down payment needed to buy both the house I live in as well as an additional rental property next door.
That experience was thrilling but also incredibly terrifying, however it just made me want to know more. I wanted to fully understand how real estate transactions worked, so I figured the best way to do that would be to get my CA Real Estate Brokers' License. I continued to save and at 29 I used that license to purchase two more vacation rental properties.
Because managing real estate can be time consuming and expensive, in recent years, I have geared my knowledge base towards the stock market and researching other investment avenues. I will say that the most significant choice I made throughout this entire journey, was to continually save. This one element alone, gave me the freedom to completely walk away from the entertainment industry in order to pursue a career that I am even more passionate about.
Wait, if the job was so perfect, why did I change careers?
A few years ago I noticed that I was unofficially mentoring many of my friends and coworkers with regards to their money and important financial decisions. It was then I realized that helping individuals was WAY more important to me than making sure the big film studios made money. The studios have tons of money, who cares if they make more. My colleagues, on the other hand, worked extremely hard, made a good living but often had nothing to show for it. This needed to change! I decided to put my years of hoarded financial knowledge and personal experience to work for others. I was no longer going to style actors, I was going to financially style the people that matter most; YOU!
So again, what makes me qualified to help you?
Beside the fact that I truly want to help you realize your financial goals, I passionately believe that with a small amount of guidance from someone that has done it, YOU can as well. In addition, these are my credentials:
